LID OFF THE BOX is one man's work. He was known as Nicky Slater, but his name never felt quite right. His parents were British and World Professional Ice Dance Champions. So he became British Ice Dance Champion, fifth in the world, two Olympics. 

He loved the show business side of skating. But he hated the deals being done by many Judges and Coaches, He hated the two faced game of winning favour he was taught. He thought, everybody was on the take. So... angry... he smiled and played the game. He was privileged yet never chose ice. It was all he knew. He aimed to be No 1. Failed. What next?

He retired on the six o'clock National News in the UK. Decades of wilderness to come. His bubble of ice skating gone, real world faced. Searching for a future, punctuated by 'Showtimes' that brought fame without fortune. "Just go teach ice skating and have a hobby." Death knell to his soul. Aspergers (ADD) contributing.
