After Jon Freddy Slater died still born our young son Benjamin was showing signs of anger at his beautiful Country School just outside Ipswich. When called repeatedly to face the Headmistress he showed no fear and appeared cold in his demeanor. We were called in to see the Headmistress and one of her assistants. ( I am reminded of how I was cold when growing up...)
At the end of the conversation the Assistant told us she had lost a brother when she was six and had reacted in a similar way to how Benjamin was. She suggested maybe Benjamin needed Counselling. We should contact EACH.
EACH THERAPY Long story short a shell shocked and emotionally battered tiny Slater family were given Therapy - FREE OF ANY CHARGE - by East Anglia Children's Hospice in Ipswich, England.
Benjamin was given Play Therapy, Christiane - Talking Therapy (is how I describe it). Your writer Nicky Slater/NICKSTIR given Music Therapy by a wonderful and gifted man Ray Travasso..
To conclude that therapy Ray suggested we write a song. There is a lovely story to come in its development. Ray thought the song would never finish. He never told me that. I had no doubt we would complete. Ray led the music, I led the lyric writing and song structuring.
The resulting song is what you hear. Produced in Kelowna, Canada where we now reside as Citizens. Life's journey...
JON'S HEARTBEAT At the start of the track is Jon Freddy's heartbeat. It was strong at Christmastime when the mid wife came around to see us and I asked if I could record the sounds coming out of her scanner. We were so excited to have that Christmas with Jon Freddy.
CHRISTIANE'S VOICE Christiane Elizabeth Slater has a beautiful voice. You can hear it on the track. Father and mother singing remembering their son. Who Christiane said this morning (as I write) is now in a better place.
Enjoy the music and if you have faced loss in your life my prayer is this music helps give you in some way on your journey. It is helping me as I write to you here.
Love Nicky (NICKSTIR)
Nicky Slater - re-inventing as NICKSTIR.
