INSPIRING PEOPLE I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO MEET - Or would like to meet
- PAUL (& HELEN) ZETTER CBE - (Paul, pictured above, with me after fishing in his private stream somewhere in the English countryside) Paul sponsored me, encouraged me, became a surrogate father in some ways to me. A brilliant, successfull, fun filled man. An inspiration. Helen told me to ‘Buck Up’ loved me and Jewish mothered me to do better. She was also an amazing entrepreneur and artist in her own right.
- PRINCESS ANNE - When you are down and broken, meeting someone who somehow recognises you need support, when the entire Country is celebrating, is something amazing and memorable. This is who Princess Anne is to me. As a competitor she has an awesome record, as a person she lifted me up when I was down and I am iternally grateful. She is down to earth. Wow.
- CHRISTOPHER DEAN MBE - Chris was my competition. With Catherine Winter as my partner I beat him. When he partnered with Jayne Torvil he swept away into the distance and I followed with the beautiful Karen Barber. Both Chris and Jayne proved that talent, plus application and a great team, can deliver amazing results - over the long term. They have inspired a country with their accomplishments. They inspire me to keep on seeking excellence.
- DEREK HUFF - Derek is my friend. He has built a business in security systems at Integrated Design that is respected wordwide. Interestingly, he could have been a Rock Star, but chose to be a circuit design Rock Star instead. His outstanding quality, aside from competitiveness, design brilliance, integrity and leadership is his amazing ability to stay living the same way, in the same place regardless of the success financially he could leverage. A beautiful man with a beautiful family and the leader of a superb team who supported me on my journey at one point. (Sorry I broke the photo copier).
- LAWRENCE STROLL - So I read his history, I see his vision (People say I am a visionary - I do see what's possible) I see his brand aspirations and expertise ( I have a penchant for branding and a Masters in Marketing). I see his vision for Aston Martin and I invest all I have in shares, summer 2023. It goes up - Magic Money - then bombs 50% at the time of writing - which… is pretty serious for me! Ha. And his approach inspires me. I wish Aston Martin Racing and Aston Martin Lagonda were one. Lawrence can you sort that please? And I see Aston Marton as a British Ferrari. But the debt! So he inspires my work - to be visionary, to dare, to invest, to risk. Thank you Lawrence, as a fellow Canadian (that I now am) I feel a joint affilation as both Englishman and Canadian to your quest for this iconic brand. Not forgetting I have all my life savings invested and if you could sort the Chinese market and boost the share price that would be cool! I know it's going to be great. Sometimes people just can't see the vision you have - until it becomes reality.
- JIM RADCLIFFE - I am a Manchester United fan. I am an Ineos fan. The Britannia yacht is astounding. I love the feeling of integrous competion that is imbued from what I read and watch. As with Lawrence Stroll. Titans of business making a difference. I have speced my Grenadier: black, full off road, no frills.
- BRUCE SPRINGSTEIN - I read a book featuring his interviews copied in verbatim. I have his Obama interview superb pictoral book. I watched his three hour concert. First time sounded like a car crash at times. Now it is amazing. I took a chord structure he used and created a fabulous song from it. An inspiring driven man who understands the importance of ‘The Story.’
- BILLY JOEL - I have watched the last concert at the Shea Stadium about ten thousand times. He is brilliant. Saw him with Elton John in London. His entire band is amazing in it's tightness and relaxed professionalism. Inspirational from a professional, performance and songwriting point of view.
- LORD KENNETH CLARKE - I read his book - A Kind of Blue. I found a Politician who was committed to do the best for his country, who stood against flak, who was the most hated man in England at times and changed so many things for the better. Inspiring to know that - at least one Politician was there for the good of the Country. Now there's a revelation. To read about the Thatcher years and Margarets focus on making things better was brilliant. I could have met her if I'd walked across the room at Richmond where she was talking with Morecambe and Wise. Three heros in one if I'd had the guts!
- H M THE QUEEN - I met her once, I met her mother once. I am a Royalist. Her Majesty always, no matter the pressure each year, spoke to my family through the Christmas Day message. She stood on her faith. She served our Countries. She was amazing. A true inspiration of service. Even when everyone and everything around you looks grim. A light…
- TOM COLLINS - Tom promoted ice skating tours. After nearly going bankrupt and being rescued by Neil Diamond to do his merchandising he ran the Tour of World Champions in America and Canada. He made a fortune. But, more than that, he was generous. Dom Perignon Chamapagne and Kentucky fried chicken on a tour bus, my kind of life. A Suite and $200 for my birthday in San Francisco stocking the bar with Margaritas superb. Sorry I feel asleep at my surprise party afterwards ladies.
- BERNARD DELFONTE - Lew Grades brother. Probably the most successfull theatrical impressario there has ever been in Britain. HIs Biography was a revelation. I absolutely love Show Business. All of it. I should have been a rigger. I've been a Producer, A ‘star.’ An Impressario. Aged five my first show. But Bernard was the Master in the era of ‘The Boards’ in Britain. Oh yes and his brother created ITV, with whom I have worked on occassions and they sponsored us at one point!
- STEVE JOBS - I love Apple. I am an Apple man. It just works - the first time the laser printer printed a page and the footer was in the right place was a feeling of joy. As a business I worked for spent tens of thousands on an IBM system I knew that three little Apples I owned and Filemaker could do all I needed. But I didn't have the guts to just do it then. Now… It was about the Mavericks, the Change Makers, the Visionaries. To some extent it still is. Tim Cooke has done a super job - and he might admit - he is not Steve. 'Knits’ would never have featured in marketing if Steve was still here methinks… and something else would have happened for the iPhone shape…
- more to come….
